Citizens Advice Bureaux provide free, confidential and independent advice on issues such as housing, legal, money, debt, repossession and welfare benefits. Credit Unions
Credit Unions offer savings and great value loans to it members. In Somerset there are four Credit Unions with service points in towns throughout the County.

Shelter
Shelter offers help with housing, mortgage debt or problems with welfare benefits. It operates a national homeowners helpline on 0300 3300 515 to provide expert help. Shelter have an office in Taunton and can be accessed on 0800 169 0317.

Wessex Home Improvement Loans offer low cost finance to homeowners for essential maintenance and improvement works to their property.

 

Your Local District Council
To see if you are eligible for Council tax benefit to help with your council tax bills, to get advice about a homelessness application or to register with Homefinder Somerset, contact your local Council. You can also contact them for other housing advice. All of the district Councils in Somerset are offering the Mortgage Rescue Scheme. Depending on which district you live you in click on one of the following:

Mortgage help is a government website dedicated to helping homeowners that are worried about their mortgage or in mortgage arrears.

For information and advice on Pension Credit, if you are over the state pension age, phone 0800 99 1234.
